Small container herb

I have 2 containers with herb in front of the house. I've actually been pretty bad at watering these containers, but yet again, the neglect has not hurt most of the plants. In one container, there is thyme, rosemary, and perilla (or shiso). I had totally forgotten that I had sowed perilla seeds since the first 2 weeks I didn't see any seedlings. But now, it has grown some beautiful leaves. I throw them in salads and it adds a wonderful fragrance.
Left rosemary, middle perilla, right thyme
Perilla with beautiful leaves
There were some pretty flowers on the mint plant. Overall, it looks like it is suffering from uneven watering. But mint is strong so it should survive.
Cute pink mint flowers
Mint needs a little TLC

  2. The comment on top Is In Spanish. The rosemary and thyme look great. Shiso? I've never tried shiso what does It smell like? I've tried purple ruffles basil which Is good and Is said to taste like shiso. I could grow shiso but what can I use It In? The mint needs to be cut back. that's how my mint looked at the end of season. are those all the herbs you have do you have more interesting herbs? I've recently heard of kangkung, and Galangal

    1. Shiso smells very unique...if you ever had Japanese pickled plum, it is used to give it its fragrance. I have also seen it used in Vietnamese dishes. Other than the herbs in this post, I only have basil (now flowering) and lemongrass. I used to have stevia, but I never could get used to the aftertaste and so I let it die out. Right now on my herb list for next year include: tumeric, ginger, kafir lime leaves, bay leaves, cilantro, dill and parsley. Maybe I will try galangal too, but I don't know how to use it. I would love to take a thai cooking class to learn. Thanks for the tip on cutting back the mint.
