July 4, 2011 - Harvest Monday

Happy July 4th! I hope the weather holds up so I can go see the fireworks! But the sky is looking like it wants to rain.

In the garden I've been getting some more early girls which is very exciting! The summer squash continues to produce, but I have to pick them small since there were no male flowers blooming (I finally saw one today).
The jalapenos now have a little kick to them. I like them sweet, but spicy is delicious too! I see some salsa in the future!
I want to restart some dill since the first batch was starting to get brown. I thought they would get bigger and bushier. Maybe the pot is too small. I am thinking of trying the dill that Granny sent me.

  2. You're way ahead of me on tomatoes, zukes and peppers! I don't even have any blossoms on my pepper plants. The dill seeds I sent you do well in pots. Mine is about 3' tall and so pretty, if I didn't want to use it, I'd still plant it for looks. In fact, I set the pot in the corner by the shed so it could self sow and fill in that entire useless corner next year.

  3. Lucky you getting tomatoes, zucchini, and peppers all at the same time already! That is the foundation for one of our favorite vegetable sautee's (just need an onion and some italian dry seasoning and freshly grated parmesan to make it complete!).

  5. Your tomatoes are making everyone jealous it seems! Soon hopefully we will all be drowning in the yummy red globes.

  6. Look at all those little zukes. I had no male flowers at the start either, but now at least I do. Occasionally one won't pollinate, but mostly they are mixing it up now.

  8. wow, you grew all these on your balcony? You're way ahead of me with all those! I have some dill growing in my garden, and they didn't get that bushy. Right now they are all bolting. I'm wondering if they are a cool-weather herb like cilantro.

  9. I am jealous of your tomatoes, too. I have a few dozen growing, but they're still light...months away from being ready.

My jalapenos are almost ready for picking. I might cut them off tomorrow and do my first-ever Harvest Monday ^_^
